DINING IN THE SKIES

Cost: $125 per person or $1,125 for a table of ten

Dining in the Skies is a gala fundraising dinner for the restoration of the world’s only remaining Solent Mark IV Flying Boat ‘Aranui’. Enjoy a three course meal featuring dishes from the airline menus of the past.  Other highlights include silent and live auctions and a guest speaker.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS, MOTAT NIGHTS

Cost: $2 (all proceeds go towards buying children’s gifts for charity)
This fun-filled event has become a firm favourite on the seasonal calendar as it celebrates Christmas and the gift of giving. Bring the family along to meet Santa and experience the Museum’s heritage buildings, streetscapes and trams beautifully lit up with sparkling fairy lights. There will be a myriad of things to see and do with live entertainment, tram rides, outdoor movies (from 9pm, 18 – 24 December) and traditional treats such as mulled wine and cake pops on sale. It’s a must-do event for everyone in the lead up to Christmas!

Apocalypse How takes a light-hearted look at the end of the world with a new world-ending experience every week! This January from 4 – 31, you can experience first-hand what it could look and feel like if the world were to end in not just one, or two but four fictional catastrophes. Here’s the break-down of what’s happening:
Week 1: The Human Factor (4 – 10 January)
Week 2: Extinction Earth (11 – 17 January)
Week 3: Microscopic Menaces (18 – 24 January)
Week 4: Doom from the Black Beyond! (25 – 31 January)

Join us for a day of fun and frivolity amidst the ruins of Earth after the apocalypse! This festival style event will feature displays and workshops run by artisans and costumiers. Entertainment will include themed dancers, musicians, apocalyptic themed gladiators and bicycle jousting displays. Come dressed in your best ‘wasteland’ outfit!

An action packed day of zombie themed fun. Join the battle as a plucky survivor or undead zombie and help determine the fate of post-apocalyptic Auckland in an awesome game of tag like no other! This event is restricted to participants 14 years and older and booking is essential.  Zombie special effects, makeup demonstrations and themed activities are also included.

BODY IN ACTION EXHIBTION OPENS

Smelly toilets, a giant nose, a huge mouth, and a heart that never stops beating all feature in this new family-focused exhibition. Body in Action explores the way our bodies work in colourful and exciting ways. It features more than 20 interactives, 12 models and displays as well as a selection of objects from the David Warnock Medical Museum.

If you have ever wanted to find out more about the MOTAT collection then this is your chance. Most first Sundays of the month visitors can come along to themed Demo Days at the Museum. They will have the opportunity to speak to experts and find out more about particular collection items.
